| Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda
was developed after his death by Robert Hewitt Wolfe from notes he had
left, at the request of Majel Barrett Roddenberry. Robert had earlier
worked on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. It was filmed in Vancouver and
produced by Tribune Entertainment with Fireworks Entertainment.
The concept of a lone good man trying to rebuild a decent society is a recurring one for Roddenberry shows. Earth: Final Conflict, Genesis II and Planet Earth come to mind. The alien make-ups are more extreme than Trek's were, and the spaceship design is sleek and beautiful. The storylines were complex and on-going, even after RHW left in mid-season two, although many fans felt there was a dumbing down to accommodate the more casual viewer of the syndicated show and give the Dylan Hunt character the lion's share of the storylines. However, the frequent use of violence in the episodes would not have pleased Gene at all. That was not how he saw humanity in the future.
My thanks to the people who created The Andromeda Wiki, which has been an invaluable resource while I was creating these pages. Also thanks to those who created the now-defunct Andromeda website AndromedaTV.com, with its excellent episode synopses, desktop downloads et al. It is sadly missed.
