[Apartment]
WESLEY: Huh. Ah, not bad. I'm more of a Miles Davis guy. Have you ever heard of his record, 'Kind of Blue'?
It's this ancient Earth recording. Oh, it is great for taking your mind off of impending doom. It is just fabulous.
POG: Excuse me. What is going on?
ZERO: For once, Jankum speaks for us all.
DAL: A second ago, we're in a crazy temple running for our lives from time-eating monster things.
ROK: Then all of a sudden you dumped us in somebody's weird living room.
WESLEY: Okay, first off, it's not weird. It's groovy. It's an old facility the Travellers used to train our field agents, the Supervisors, who work in other time periods. I would say that this one is mimicking... oh, okay, definitely Earth, 1968? Ha! Apollo 7 launches. I nailed it.
GWYN: Focus! Are we safe here from whatever those things are upstairs?
WESLEY: The Loom? Oh, right. Yeah. Yeah, we'll be fine. Listen, after the other Travellers fled our universe, nobody uses this hidden part of the ziggurat anymore. And the temple's designed to keep those things out. So we are totally..
(Gwyn takes the needle off the record.)
GWYN: Shh, shh, guys. You were saying?
WESLEY: Okay, they moved on. We need to make a new plan. Er... all right, we're gonna wait them out. Then we all sneak up to the vault so I can finish my calculations.
POG: Why not open a door with your space-time-thought power?
WESLEY: Dal, you don't get it. There is no fighting them. They manipulate Time itself. They don't just consume you, they completely erase the fact that you ever existed. Every memory anyone has ever had of you is gone.
And the only way to stop the loom from devouring us and our dying universe is for you to find Chakotay and return the Protostar to its rightful place. Ah. I will never understand why mango juice isn't more popular.
[Shuttle bay]
TYSESS: Move. We have missing recruits on that planet.
JANEWAY: Where's my away team, Mister Tysess?
TYSESS: We're nearly ready, Admiral, but there's strange life signs down below. Could be the temporal entity that infiltrated Voyager hunting...
VOYAGER: Could be? I'd bet on it.
EMH: Which is why I insist you bring my newly refined temporal discriminators, in case Time gets unusual down there.
JANEWAY: Always thinking ahead, Doctor. Janeway to transporter room. Prepare two to beam down.
MAJ'EL: Mission to speak freely, Admiral?
JANEWAY: What's on your mind, Cadet?
MAJ'EL: I would like to join Commander Tysess to recover our missing crew.
ZEPH: Maj'El, what are you doing?
MAJ'EL: Life signs will be difficult to detect on the surface, and I am the only one aboard Voyager with a telepathic link to Zero. Logically, I am our best choice to find them.
JANEWAY: I appreciate the concern, but while there is precedent for cadets on away missions, I'm not eager to send you into a dangerous situation.
TYSESS: In truth, Admiral, we need the help. I will protect her with my life. I vow on the blood of my ancestors at the Wall of Heroes.
JANEWAY: Well, I suppose I'll hold you to that, Mister Tysess. Report to transporter room 4. Let's see you earn those pips, Cadet.
[Ziggurat]
TYSESS: Be wary. Middleton, box formation.
MIDDLETON: Aye, sir.
MAJ'EL: There is a presence here, faint but alive. Commander, I believe it is them.
TYSESS: Seems your Vulcan intuition was right.
MIDDLETON: What was that?
TYSESS: Keep moving?
MIDDLETON: Commander?
TYSESS: Whatever happens, do not break rank, and do not stop...
(Time slows. A Loom goes for Middleton as Tysess strains to touch his temporal discriminator. He activates Maj'el's.)
TYSESS: It's coming for us next.
[Tunnel]
(He throws a grenade and they run down a tunnel. The Loom struggles to follow and another grenade blocks its way.)
MAJ'EL: Commander, where are you taking us?
TYSESS: Middleton is gone, and so are we if we don't evacuate now. Tysess to Voyager, do you read? There's a better signal by the exit.
MAJ'EL: But Zero and the others. Our duty is...
TYSESS: We're no match for whatever those creatures are. My duty is you now.
JANEWAY [OC]: Commander Tysess, we read you.
TYSESS: rRequesting emergency transport. Two to beam out. Lock on to our comm. badges. I know it's hard, Cadet, but sometimes command means making the hard decisions.
MAJ'EL: A logical conclusion, Commander.
(Maj'el throws off her comm. badge as transport starts.)
[Transporter room]
TYSESS: Where is she? Where's Maj'el?
JANEWAY: You were the only one we could bring up. What happened down there?
TYSESS: I have to go back. The beasts were lying in wait. I engaged my armband, barely escaped. One got Middleton.
JANEWAY: Who is Middleton?
TYSESS: Ensign Middleton on my away team. The creature consumed him somehow.
JANEWAY: I don't recall any Middleton on the mission.
EMH: I have no medical records of any personnel by that name.
TYSESS: No, he was with me. I know it. Unless... those things. They can erase us from existence?
[Vault]
(Maj'el finds the vault door and goes inside. Everything is powered off.)
MAJ'EL: Zero, where are you? I sense you are close, but somewhere else.
[Apartment]
GWYN: What is it, Zee? What's the matter?
ZERO: A presence. No, it couldn't be her.
[Vault]
MAJ'EL: Zero, is that you?
(She shuts the door on the loom, the instruments power up.)
MAJ'EL: Zero, this is Maj'el. I know you are here. I am in danger. Please respond.
[Apartment]
(The telephone on Wesley's desk rings.)
WESLEY: Hello? It's for you.
MAJ'EL [OC]: Zero, I am trapped here. The creatures are coming for me.
ZERO: Maj'el, don't worry. I'm here.
MAJ'EL [OC]: I knew it. I could feel it. But I believe the door will not hold.
ZERO: She's trapped in the temple above. Wesley do something, please!
(He turns the bookcase to reveal a scanner.)
WESLEY: No, no. This isn't part of the plan.
DAL: Who cares, Crusher? Pop open that dimensional door and let her in.
WESLEY: It's not that easy. The second I do that we expose our position. It could lead the Loom right to us.
POG: Oh, sure. And pretend we didn't just hear her last words.
WESLEY: No! But... I need time to think.
ZERO: I will not leave her behind.
(The Loom break into the vault.)
WESLEY: I am so sorry. I can't risk it.
DAL: Well, I can!
(Dal presses the switch and Maj'el drops through the ceiling into Zero's lap.)
MAJ'EL: Huh? I am confused.
ZERO: As are we all. But it will be all right now. You're with us.
MAJ'EL: Zero? You look so... You have...
ZERO: Begun to grow beyond my programming, in the words of the good doctor. As have you, it seems.
DAL: You're here by yourself? No Starfleet in sight? Seems like a rash decision.
MAJ'EL: Or a rational one, given I found you. I know logic is not paramount to your leadership skills.
DAL: Hey, even the greatest captains gotta trust their guts sometimes. I should know.
WESLEY: Actually, I... Never mind. You'll find out. Shh. Oh, wow. I think they're gone.
(A Loom tentacle lashes out from the bookcase. Then more from another wall.)
ROK: Wesley, what now?
WESLEY: Er... follow me!
DAL: How many secret passages does this place have?
WESLEY: It's a trans-dimensional time ziggurat, so there's a lot, okay?
(Meh. TARDIS-lite.)
[Planet surface]
WESLEY: The temple's overrun. We'll never finish my work at this rate.
DAL: Come on, the Infinity's this way.
(And has Looms crawling all over it.)
POG: Oh, great. So much for the backup plan.
(Infinity disappears. They are surrounded.)
WESLEY: Well, I'm all out of ideas.
(Voyager appears in the atmosphere.)
DAL: Janeway?
[Bridge]
JANEWAY: Stay away from my crew. Fire!
(The Looms fly up the twin phaser beams.)
[Planet surface]
DAL: Move, before we're fried and eaten!
ROK: What about Janeway?
WESLEY: I'm pretty sure she just bought us our only shot to fix the universe.
GWYN: So let's not waste it.
[Bridge]
JANEWAY: Maximum shields. Keep firing until the recruits are clear. I,f we can't hail these things then we get our point across the old-fashioned way.
(A Loom walks through the viewscreen. Helm and Ops vanish.)
JANEWAY: Red alert! Fall back to the battle bridge.
[Corridor]
(Two crew are taken through the doors.)
JANEWAY: Janeway to security. Status report.
[Corridor 2]
TYSSESS: Hull breaches on decks four, five and twelve. Half of engineering's missing. We need more discriminators or we'll all be erased and forgotten.
[Sickbay]
EMH: Admiral, we have a problem here. I was making arm bands for the away team, not every humanoid on Voyager.
I'm a doctor, not an assembly line.
ZEPH: Doc, behind you!
(Time slows as he fires his phaser and activates the arm band.)
EMH: Computer, level 10 forcefield.
(The Loom walks through it.)
EMH: Run, cadets, now! Take 20 milligrams of vengeance, you otherworldly tyrant.
(He sprays something at the Loom, it disappears his mobile emitter and he ends up in...
[Holodeck]
EMH: Oh dear.
[Another corridor]
JANEWAY: Doctor, Commander, are you there?
[Corridor 2]
TYSESS: I'm here, Admiral, but we are losing. You have to do something.
[Shuttlebay]
ZEPH: Counsellor Noum?
NOUM: Self-preservation is a virtue. Think you can board our ship without consequences?
[Shuttle]
('Macrocosm' Janeway is at the controls.)
JANEWAY: Want my ship? You go through me. You don't like it when I match my weapons to your phase variance? Then come get me and tell your friends.
(She reverses the shuttle out of the bay and the Loom follow as she dives towards the ground, pulling up just in time.)
JANEWAY: Tom Paris taught me that one, but this one's my own. Computer, quantum torpedoes, full spread.
(The shuttle goes spinning towards the ziggurat.)
JANEWAY: All power to shields!
(A Loom headbutts the shuttle. There is a crash.)
[Corridor 2]
TYSESS: Admiral, I don't know what you did, but the creatures are retreating. Admiral? Admiral Janeway!
[Side of the Ziggurat]
TYSESS [OC]: Admiral Janeway.
JANEWAY: That used to be a lot easier.
[Vault]
WESLEY: Almost ready to initiate... There. Now, if you six would step under the modified Boreth crystals near the Orb of Time I can get the quantum signature readings I need.
DAL: And this crazy machine will save everyone how exactly?
ROK: It's not the machine, Dal. It's us.
WESLEY: Hidden among billions of possible futures there is a sequence of events. You six save Gwyn, find the Protostar and fix the prime universe. This will tell me where you go next to make that happen.
MAJ'EL: Fascinating. All our hopes now ride on them.
GWYN: We came all this way. Now or never.
POG: Ah, fine. But Jankom's still not sure this won't scramble his genes like a Jibalian omelette.
WESLEY: it's perfectly safe. Just don't look at the data stream or you might see your own future.
POG: Wait, what?
WESLEY: Nobody likes spoilers.
(Dal looks.)
DAL [OC]: I made a mistake, Gwyn. That chair never belonged to me.
WESLEY: I don't understand. I can't find it. None of these possible futures succeed in closing the time loop.
GWYN: What do you mean? It didn't work?
ZERO: Isn't that why you brought us here?
WESLEY: There must be a variable in your future. There's some X factor I didn't account for. But what is it? Think, Wesley.
GWYN: Dal? What's wrong? You looked, didn't you? What did you see?
DAL: A future I don't want.
POG: Well, that sounds ominous.
WESLEY: The sum of both of us. That's it.
MAJ'EL: What are you doing?
WESLEY: I'm testing a theory. Ha, ha1 Of course! Oh, it was right in front of me the whole time. I just didn't look. The missing variable was you. It was never six. It's seven. You have to go with them.
MAJ'EL: Go where?
WESLEY: Exactly where you need to be.
(The Orb opens a vortex. The door opens.)
JANEWAY: It's you. All of you. You're alive. And you're Wesley Crusher?
WESLEY: Hey, Admiral Janeway. I predicted you might show up.
JANEWAY: Why are you here?
ROK: Because the universe is fraying and Wesley knows a way to find the Protostar. Or he thought he did.
JANEWAY: It was you. You were the ghost who lured them here.
WESLEY: Oh, I prefer the term omnitemporal Traveller to ghost. Oh no.
(Loom sounds.)
JANEWAY: We need to evacuate to Voyager and warp out of here immediately.
WESLEY: Look, respectfully, Admiral, the only path left to saving our future is if the seven of them enter that gate.
JANEWAY: Whatever you think is happening here, Mister Crusher, I still have a duty to protect my crew, and I won't let them be hurled into uncharted peril again.
WESLEY: It's not our call to make. Time's up. Listen, I can keep them at bay, but you have to go through that gate. It is the only way to save Gwyn, fix the prime universe and find Chakotay.
JANEWAY: Go. I'm trusting you.
(The team step through the stargate and it closes. Sorry.)
WESLEY: I'll use everything I got to seal off the Loom for as long as I can. Good luck, Admiral, and goodbye.
JANEWAY: Huh?
(He drops her through a vortex to...)
[Bridge]
(Into the captain's chair, in full uniform again.)
TYSESS: Admiral!
JANEWAY: Get me eyes on that planet now.
[Vault]
WESLEY: Space. Time. Thought.
[Bridge]
(The planet becomes a debris field.)
JANEWAY: Run a full multispectral sweep.
EMH: They're gone without a trace.
JANEWAY: To where?
[Dunes]
DAL: Is that...?
(The Protostar, with a bearded Chakotay sitting on the hull gazing out over the planet.)
