[Planet surface]
(Chakotay has settled to a life here - collecting fruit, harvesting caviar from the local fish, making a shelter, cleaning the solar panels on the ship's hull, whittling figurines of people he knows, until one day he gets to Aleek-Hu. Suddenly his net trap is sprung.)
POG: What do we do? Tell me what to do?
DAL: Hey, again. What's up?
ZERO: It worked! Wesley has catapulted us across the quadrant to Captain Chakotay and the Protostar.
POG: What? Oh, what did he do to our ship?
CHAKOTAY: Your ship? It's my ship.
HOLO-JANEWAY: Captain, you know these intruders?
ROK: Hologram Janeway? It's you!
HOLO-JANEWAY: Have we met?
DAL: No, not yet. But yes, kind of. Man, this is weird.
GWYN: Like seeing a ghost.
CHAKOTAY: Looks like we've nabbed a few of those galactic raiders that helped me and Adreek escape Solum ten years ago.
DAL: Ten years? That happened like...
MAJ'EL: Technically, it...
DAL: I know, Maj'el. Temporal mechanics.
POG: Speaking of Adreek, where is that bird beak? Too chicken to see me?
(The net drops to the ground.)
GWYN: It appears Adreek is a sore subject.
CHAKOTAY: Starfleet uniforms. Temporal mechanics. You were never galactic raiders. But how do you know my emergency hologram?
GWYN: She helped us once.
ZERO: Originally, you and Adreek never escaped future Solum.
ROK: But you heroically launched the Protostar through the wormhole's time anomaly.
DAL: Where we found it in the past, and found each other.
POG: Then we kind of time travelled again, but sort of screwed it all up trying to rescue you,
MAJ'EL: When you brought the ship here, you changed their past.
POG: And now some nasty time monsters are hunting us down, but Wesley Crusher saved us and brought us here to you.
CHAKOTAY: I'm sorry. Time monsters? Wesley Crusher?
GWYN: We need to get the Protostar back to the past in Tars Lamora, or else things will get a lot worse.
CHAKOTAY: Hmm. No.
DAL: No?
POG: What does he mean, no?
CHAKOTAY: To protect the Federation, we stranded ourselves on this island, so the weapon on board that ship never falls into hands like hers!
ROK: Gwyn's not like the other Vau N'Akat.
DAL: And that weapon? Relax, we already set it off
CHAKOTAY + JANEWAY: You what?
DAL: Easy, easy. We blew up our ship
CHAKOTAY: You mean my ship.
DAL: No, the one we found. We saved the Federation.
CHAKOTAY: But the Vau N'Akat weapon on board...
DAL: Starfleet already know. They're ready. It's not a threat any more.
ROK: That's why we're happy to see Hologram Janeway. I can't wait to get back and tell Admiral Janeway about this.
CHAKOTAY: Oh. Sorry, kids, but you're never getting my ship off this planet. I advise you make some shelter. The ion storms here can get pretty hairy.
ZERO: Ion storms?
DAL: What ion storms?
ROK: You can't leave us out here.
(Chakotay goes into the Protostar and starts to close the ramp.)
CHAKOTAY: Welcome to Ysida. Enjoy your stay!
[Protostar]
CHAKOTAY: Time travelling misfits. Just when you think you've seen everything.
HOLO-JANEWAY: well, you still surprise me.
CHAKOTAY: If you have something to say.
HOLO-JANEWAY: Have you considered they could be telling the truth?
CHAKOTAY: I can't take that chance. I won't.
HOLO-JANEWAY: Still, a little compassion never hurt.
CHAKOTAY: I've endured ten years here. They can make it through one night.
[Planet surface]
(They have crates of supplies with them.)
DAL: Hey! Come on. Open up! Let us in! We're not seriously gonna let him take our ship.
MAJ'EL: I fail to see what other choice we have. Captain Chakotay outranks us. And if Wesley presumes the seven of us must stay together, it's only logical our immediate survival takes precedence over squabbling whose ship it is.
GWYN: He's been marooned here ten years. We can't expect him to change his mind in one day. Maj'el's right.
ZERO: If the ionised atmosphere was less temperamental, the captain wouldn't be such a prickly fellow.
ROK: I guess ten years of lightning storms can do that to you.
DAL: Whatever. I ain't afraid of no little storm.
POG: Oh, but what about a big one?
[Protostar bridge]
CHAKOTAY: I can hear you staring.
HOLO-JANEWAY: Don't leave those cadets out there. He would have let them in.
[Protostar]
(Ramp opens.)
CHAKOTAY: Just so we're clear, it's still my ship!
DAL: We don't need your help. We're doing just fine on our own.
(Everyone else runs in, a lightning strike wrecks the shelter.)
DAL: All right, crew. We're going inside.
[Protostar]
HOLO-JANEWAY: Welcome aboard. She's seen better days, but we've got warm bunks and plenty of food.
GWYN: Thanks, Janeway. Always looking out for us.
HOLO-JANEWAY: I am?
ROK: We missed you.
ZERO: And this ship.
DAL: Even if it is falling apart.
POG: Ow! Would it kill you to turn some lights on in this place?
CHAKOTAY: We try to conserve power as much as possible. The remaining systems run off emergency power cells,
and every year the backup solar collectors lose a fraction of their efficiency.
POG: Solar collectors? How do you keep the Proto-core stable without consistent power?
CHAKOTAY: We don't. We ejected the Proto-core.
POG: You ejected it?
CHAKOTAY: Vented the warp drives too.
ZERO: But without the matter and the antimatter to power the reactor, the ship has no fuel to fly.
CHAKOTAY: Like I said, you're never getting my ship off this planet.
[Protostar bridge]
POG: Huh? Meh.
ZERO: We've marooned ourselves too, haven't we?
CHAKOTAY: You get used to it, kid. Sure the storms are rough, and the fish eggs can taste like sulphur. But the needs of the many outweigh the comfort of a few. I'm sure you're all familiar with the ship. Feel free to find somewhere else to ride out the storm.
POG: Huh?
DAL: Is this how Starfleet trains their captains to be? Broken old men who give up hope when things get tough?
POG: Er... Hey, hey, look what Jankom found. It's little bird guy.
(The figurine.)
CHAKOTAY: Don't touch that! Don't touch any of them. You wanted them on the ship, you deal with them. Janeway, you have the bridge.
POG: Remind Jankom never to play chess with him.
GWYN: These pieces they're... they're his officers.
HOLO-JANEWAY: Forgive him. He's a captain who's lost his entire crew.
MAJ'EL: His grief must be unbearable. After the captain and first officer marooned themselves here, it took its toll on them. Seeing Chakotay lose his spirit, Adreek wanted to give him hope. Adreek thought perhaps they could find a way off this planet and find another solution. The captain thought it was impossible and far too risky to try, but Adreek wouldn't give up. He thought if they could harness the antimatter generated by the storms, there could be a way to replenish the warp engines. Chakotay wouldn't hear of it. So Adreek ventured out alone to test his theory, but a storm blew in and he never returned. It's strange. I haven't seen a new face in years, but here I am, opening up to you like old friends.
ROK: I like to think we go way back.
HOLO-JANEWAY: I don't know why, but I believe you. Chakotay has always been an honourable man. His bitterness hides a scar. He's seen more than enough tragedy for a lifetime and can't bear anyone else getting hurt. I should check on him. Excuse me.
MAJ'EL: If the captain has made up his mind, I do not understand why Wesley has sent us here.
POG: Well, maybe he wants us to... just hear me out... steal the ship?
ROK: Is that what we are to him? Thieves?
DAL: If the shoe fits.
GWYN: You heard Janeway. Adreek had a plan. Chakotay just wouldn't listen to it. If we want to get off this planet, it'll take more than fixing a ship. We need to fix a captain.
(Next day, Zero is cleaning the 'windscreen' with Murf. Literally.)
ZERO: A bright morning to you, Captain Chakotay. Isn't it a beautiful day?
(Zero finds the ship's plaque and puts it back up.)
[Planet surface]
ROK: (shaking the tree) Shields up. Fruit incoming.
(Murf catches the fish Chakotay gets the caviar from. He makes Murf put them back. Passing Pog working on an ATV.)
CHAKOTAY: Good luck. Hasn't run in years.
POG: Who needs luck when you've got accessories?
(Maj'el and Gwyn are servicing the solar panels.)
MAJ'EL: Live long and prosper.
(Later, Pog, Maj'el and Gwyn are repairing the holes in the hull.)
[Hilltop]
DAL: Hey, Dal, can you grab some plasma fruit? It only grows at the top of the hill. Aye, aye. Anything for you, Captain.
(He spots a metallic formation crackling with energy and gets a shock from it. Something rises from the sand behind him, casting a big shadow.)
DAL: Ah!
[Hull]
GWYN: Another ion maelstrom, bigger this time. Let's get everyone inside.
[Protostar]
MAJ'EL: How much time do we have?
CHAKOTAY: Not enough that's the worst I've seen in years.
GWYN: Where's Dal?
MAJ'EL: I thought he was with Jankom.
POG: Jankom thought he was with Rok.
GWYN: Dal, we got another storm fast approaching and we need you back now. Dal, can you read me?
HOLO-JANEWAY: There's too much ion interference from the lightning.
ZERO: Where is he going?
CHAKOTAY: To pray the Runaway's fixed.
GWYN: If you're looking for Dal, I'm coming with you.
POG: And you're gonna need an engineer.
MAJ'EL: We'll continue searching for Dal.
ROK: Be careful out there.
[Runaway]
(The ATV splutters, so Pog hits it.)
POG: Percussive maintenance.
CHAKOTAY: I like it. Why is the blobby guy here?
GWYN: Security.
[Protostar]
ROK: Guys, guys. We've got a signal from Dal's com-badge.
MAJ'EL: Gwyn, do you read me?
GWYN [OC]: We read you.
ZERO: Head north, bearing zero one eight mark four.
[Runaway]
POG: Jankom hopes Dal's not too far.
GWYN: It's just a little lightning.
POG: Easy for you to say. Your hand's not a lightning rod.
CHAKOTAY: That's the least of our worries. What you really have to watch out for is down below.
GWYN: What's below?
(A giant creature leaps up to grab a lightning bolt then dives back into the ground.)
CHAKOTAY: Things that feed on lightning.
POG: Let me get this straight. Out of all the planets to maroon yourself, on you pick this P-class nightmare?
CHAKOTAY: Hold on.
(He converts to a hover-vehicle as the plummet down a Dune sand worm tunnel.)
POG: You know, as a captain, you're not half bad. Wow, but still not half good.
(Their seatbelts break and Murf stretches to hold them in place.)
CHAKOTAY: Security. I get it now.
[Protostar]
ROK: I see Dal but I've lost the others.
ZERO: Gwyn, can you read me? Gwyn?
[Runaway]
(Dodging sand worms, until they finally convert back to a wheeled vehicle.)
ROK [OC]: Gwyn, are you there?
GWYN: We read you. Sorry. Had to take a shortcut.
[Protostar]
ROK: Whew. Yeah, you did. You're practically right on top of each other.
HOLO-JANEWAY: We're sending his coordinates now.
[Tunnel]
CHAKOTAY: He's 500 metres up that hillside.
GWYN: The exit's too narrow. We'll go on foot.
[Cavern]
(Full of energised stuff.)
GWYN: Dal! Oh, you're okay. Dal, what is it?
POG: Oh no. Adreek.
DAL: Giant worms were chasing me, but I took refuge here, where I found him.
CHAKOTAY: That feathered fool thought he could find a way off this island.
GWYN: We still can, Captain.
POG: Can we?
(Chakotay activates the canister Adreek's skeleton is holding._
CHAKOTAY: Antimatter. You did it, Adreek! You were right all along.
[Protostar]
ROK: You found Dal!
GWYN: He's not all we found.
CHAKOTAY: My crew went down with the ship instead of me. Adreek is gone.
HOLO-JANEWAY: He sacrificed so you could live.
CHAKOTAY: When they showed up, I was ready to spend the rest of my days guarding this ship with my life,
but Adreek and this crew reminded me there's always another way. You're certain it's safe to return? And you need the Protostar to save others?
GWYN: We wouldn't be here otherwise.
DAL: And with this we have a chance at getting off this planet.
CHAKOTAY: All of us.
[Planet surface]
(Adreek's remains are set adrift on a boat.)
GWYN: Janeway said Adreek had a plan?
CHAKOTAY: He did, but he knew before this ship could fly, first it has to sail.
