[Voyager bridge]
JANEWAY: Damage report.
TYSESS: Dead in the water. Cascading failures in all primary systems.
JANEWAY: Get me shields, warp, anything!
TYSESS: Too late. We've got incoming.
[Nova squad]
DAL: Impulse engines still offline.
ZEPH: A torpedo explosion will do that. Can we get them back?
MAJ'EL: I am working on it. Secondary power restored. Sending fixes to your computers now.
ZEPH: On it.
DAL: Oh no.
[Protostar]
CHAKOTAY: How many drones can that monstrosity hold?
GWYN: My father tried to warn us. We can't stand by while Voyager's destroyed. We have to fight back.
CHAKOTAY: Losing this ship will jeopardise the timeline and your existence.
GWYN: A risk, not a certainty.
HOLO-JANEWAY: It is a risk, but it wouldn't be the first time they've surprised us.
[Voyager bridge]
ENSIGN 2: The attack is refocusing on deck 7!
TYSESS: Asencia's picking us apart.
ENSIGN: Hull breach on deck 16! Now 17!
JANEWAY: She's toying with us.
TYSESS: Starfleet distress beacon's going unanswered. We may be on our own.
ENSIGN: They're targeting deck 8, portside.
JANEWAY: Evacuate sickbay, now!
(Protostar swoops in and takes out the drones.)
[Protostar]
ROK: Those drones are anticipating our auto-targeting.
POG: Bifurcating the tractor beam ought to slow them down.
CHAKOTAY: Nice shooting, Murf.
MURF: Pew, pew, pew, pew, pew.
[Nova squad]
DAL: That's my crew! That's my crew!
[Voyager bridge]
JANEWAY: Chakotay, I said hold back, but I'm glad you defied my orders for once.
CHAKOTAY [OC]: For once?
JANEWAY: Crew to battle stations. We may fight our way out of this yet.
[Solum]
DREDNOK [OC]: We await your next order.
ASENCIA: They do have some fight after all. (to Wesley) Now show me what our new weapon will do to them.
WESLEY: You don't know what you're meddling with. Space, time, and thought aren't meant to be weaponised.
ASENCIA: You talk too much, Mister Crusher.
(He projects an image of Voyager exploding.)
ASENCIA: Now that's a future I look forward to. Fire the Incursor.
[Nova squad]
DAL: Er, anyone else seeing what I'm seeing?
MAJ'EL: Voyager, incoming!
[Bridge]
JANEWAY: Fire all port thrusters.
[Protostar]
CHAKOTAY: Thrusters are too slow. We need to give some cover fire.
GWYN: We're caught in the energy drain.
POG: Weapons are paralysed.
[Bridge]
ROK: They're helpless.
JANEWAY: Janeway to crew. Brace for impact.
[Sickbay]
TYSESS [OC]: Attention. Shuttlebay three has been breached by an unidentified object. Evacuate the immediate area.
EMH: A hull breach, but no explosion?
NOUM: Maybe it's a dud and we got lucky.
ZERO: I fear it's only just begun.
[Shuttlebay 3]
TYSESS: Great Uzaveh.
(Incursor counting down.)
TYSESS: Fall back. Fall back!
(Detonation, a slowly enlarging fireball.)
ENSIGN 3: Commander, help me!
TYSESS: Ensign!
(He frees her and pushes her out of the bay just before the fireball reaches him.)
ENSIGN 3: Commander!
(She grabs his hand and pulls him out.)
[Corridor]
ENSIGN 3: Sir?
(He has aged.)
JANEWAY [OC]: Janeway to Tysess. What's happening down there?
[Bridge]
ENSIGN 3 [OC]: We are caught in a major blast wave. There is temporal radiation spreading. Commander Tysess is down.
JANEWAY: Level 10 containment fields around the shuttlebay. Remodulate against whatever that thing's emitting.
[Protostar]
CHAKOTAY: Get these controls back online.
GWYN: I can't. Our reserves are getting sapped quicker than Voyager's.
HOLO-JANEWAY: Soon we'll need saving.
CHAKOTAY: Open a hail. Kathryn, you're all right.
JANEWAY [on screen]: For now. This weapon's riddled with exotic radiation. It's decimating our ship and anyone in its path. Tysess is in critical condition.
CHAKOTAY: Can you contain it?
JANEWAY [on screen]: We slowed it, but only temporarily.
CHAKOTAY: And now the Protostar's next.
JANEWAY [on screen]: Wherever did she get this weaponry?
ENSIGN 2 [OC]: Admiral, we have Starfleet command.
JANEWAY [on screen]: Hang in there, Chakotay. I'm calling in the cavalry.
[Bridge]
JANEWAY: Admiral, just in time. How close are Starfleet reinforcements?
JELLICO [on screen]: Days away. The fleet's stretched too far. I'm sorry, Kathryn, truly.
[Sickbay]
EMH: I don't understand. No sign of radiation poisoning. If anything, he seems to be dying of...
NOUM: Old age. Congratulations, Commander Tysess. You now have seniority.
EMH: Temporarily. A week of Cerberusian gene therapy should reverse the damage.
ZERO: The shuttlebay. Did it appear different within the energy field?
ENSIGN 3: It was rusted over, decayed.
EMH: Chronometric deterioration. It's accelerating time itself within anything it touches.
NOUM: My hip needs a replacement just thinking about it.
EMH: Someone has to dismantle that weapon before it erodes Voyager into geriatric oblivion. I'd do it myself, but the holo-emitters have likely rusted over.
NOUM: Anyone near it will lose decades in mere moments. Nobody could last long enough to shut it down.
ZERO: What if one doesn't need a body?
EMH: Zero, no, you can't. We don't know the full extent of this radiation.
ZERO: I'm a Medusan. We do not age as organics do. I'm the only one aboard who can endure it, even if I lose this form. I must try.
EMH: Doctor to Janeway. We have a plan.
[Corridor / Protostar]
ZERO: Mister Pog, are you there?
POG: A little busy trying to keep the shields up.
ZERO: Hate to be a bother, but I'll need my new body sooner than expected.
[Nova squad]
MAJ'EL: Asencia's attempting to disable the Protostar just as she did Voyager.
ZEPH: There's no one left to defend them.
MAJ'EL: That is inaccurate. We have received Starfleet training, which suggests we have a small but valid chance
for victory.
DAL: How small?
MAJ'EL: I will decline to answer for purposes of morale, but we can make a difference.
DAL: Then lead the way.
MAJ'EL: Attempting Starfleet attack Omega. Phoenix triad into a Yeager loop, and concentrate fire on my mark. The drones appear to anticipate every Starfleet flight pattern.
DAL: It's like they read the manual. I haven't even read the manual.
MAJ'EL: Keep going. We have to buy the others more time.
[Outside Shuttlebay 3]
ZERO: Computer, allow forcefield bypass.
COMPUTER: Warning. Hazardous levels of unknown radiation detected.
ZERO: Emergency medical authorisation.
COMPUTER: Emergency medical author... authorisation acknowledged.
[Protostar]
GWYN: Jankom, I thought you were boosting the shields. Why is the vehicle replicator using our power reserves?
POG: No time to explain, but Jankom will. Zero's going to shut down that time weapon, so that means they need a backup body now.
CHAKOTAY: They're doing what?
POG: Just quit rocking the ship or Zee's going to wind up with a third arm. How's Jankom supposed to work under these conditions?
ZERO [OC]: Sorry to interrupt, Rok. Might I trouble you for advice on disabling an advanced time weapon?
ROK: Of course. Tell me exactly what you're seeing.
[Nova squad]
ZEPH: We can't take much more of this. They're predicting our every move.
DAL: Oh, then maybe it's time we get unpredictable. If they know our Starfleet flight patterns, forget your training.
ZEPH: Would you look at that.
MAJ'EL: It appears the logical move is to abandon logic altogether.
ZEPH: Let's go!
DAL: Circles? You're going to have to do better than that, Maj'el. Show me some wack-a-doo moves.
MAJ'EL: Wack-a-doo it is.
[Incursor controls]
ZERO: Oh, I feel so tired. It's hard to focus. Jankom, I'm not sure these old hands will last much longer.
ROK [OC]: Hang on, Zee. There has to be a power relay to disable it somewhere.
ZERO: I can't find it. Zero to all crew. I fear the weapon cannot be shut off, though I can reroute its target. It seems the programme can only lock on to another Starfleet vessel.
[Bridge]
JANEWAY: Then we need another solution.
MAJ'EL [OC]: Lock the weapon onto my flyer.
[Nova squad]
MAJ'EL: I will lead it into the enemy ship.
ZEPH: Maj'el, that's ridiculous.
MAJ'EL: Wesley Crusher said I was important. Whether this is my moment or not, the logical choice is to always protect Starfleet.
DAL: Not alone you won't.
MAJ'EL: Correct. If we are to perform the Boothby Supernova to draw the weapon away, I require your aid.
ZEPH: No one's ever pulled off that manoeuvre!
DAL: Which means these drones won't be expecting it.
MAJ'EL: Set the weapon to detonate with all chronometric energy upon impact.
ZERO [OC]: Perhaps my body will degrade and my senses will dull, or maybe this is the first step in a journey of self-discovery and unknown possibility. Either way, I'll take it with those most important to me. My family.
[Protostar]
POG: Don't worry, Zee. Jankom's almost finished with your new body. Beaming over shortly. Zero? Zero?
(The Incursor starts to leave Voyager.)
[Nova squad]
MAJ'EL: Zero did it.
DAL: Get moving, Maj'el. It's targeting your flier.
MAJ'EL: Follow my lead. Open your coolant interlocks. Begin Boothby supernova in three...
ZEPH: Two...
DAL: One. Engage.
(A sudden 90 degree course change and the Incursor hits the Rav-1. KaBOOM.)
[Shuttlebay]
POG: Ha, ha! Yeah!
GWYN: Nice flying, Nova Squadron.
DAL: Thanks, Number One.
ZEPH: Okay, I admit it. He can fly a shuttlecraft.
ROK: Maj'el, you did so good.
MAJ'EL: Where is Zero?
POG: Zero?
ZERO: Don't just stare. Say something.
POG: Not too shabby for a rush job, huh?
GWYN: You look perfect.
DAL: Out of any design, you went back to your original look?
ZERO: Not quite. I'm proud of what I made for myself then, but it wasn't complete.
POG: So we added a few upgrades. Zee now has sensory inputs.
(Maj'el touches the globe.)
ZERO: Ooo. Oh my.
MAJ'EL: How do you feel?
ZERO: I feel like me.
JANEWAY: And that's what matters most, even if it means we must adapt. Today was a trial by fire, and we nearly lost everything. Despite our injuries, your unified efforts ensured our survival. There was no single hero or saviour. Instead, we were carried by many smaller acts of bravery as we fought for each other. Asensia's placed us on the path to war. Admiral Jellico has requested a presence at Solum. Voyager and the Protostar are the closest ships. Begin repairs, because we won't be going home. Our mission isn't over yet.
(Later.)
CHAKOTAY: Nice speech. It seems everyone took comfort from it, except you.
JANEWAY: After what I've seen today, I worry what the future brings.
CHAKOTAY: Nothing stays the same forever.
[Solum]
WESLEY: What's the matter? Not the ending you were hoping for?
ASENCIA: That was quite the trick, showing one outcome and hiding others in your mind. But, sadly for you, I learned more than you realise. Not a single ship came to their aid. Starfleet's just spread too thin, and entirely unprepared for what comes next.
